So sorry (sort of....)

I want to tell you about an incident that occurred last Sunday, after my walk. And to ask you to judge who was in the wrong. And whether I really should have been made to apologize...

It happened like this.

Gail was out in the street washing the car. I was stood by, as usual diligently performing my quality control function. Then I saw our neighbour Yvonne, across the road, getting out of a strange car. So naturally I rushed over to see what was up. (You have to understand that we live in a very quiet street). Gail shouted at me but I ignored her.

Then, much to my surprise, Yvonne picked me up and started to walk back towards Gail. But she picked me up ALL WRONG. I didn't like that at all so I struggled and she dropped me! From a great height! Right in the middle of the road! I fell hard on my left front paw. It REALLY hurt. I barked, loudly, of course. Yvonne leant over to pat me but I was frightened and so sort of bit her on the hand. But I didn't hurt her nearly as much as she hurt my leg. I was still limping the next day.

Yvonne has a big dog - a flat coated retriever called Jake. She says that she forgot I had such short legs. That's not my fault is it?

Well anyway, the next day Gail made me buy some flowers and go round to Yvonne's house with them to say sorry.

Was that fair?

PS I have been told to add that Yvonne is a very nice lady who sometime takes me for walks when Gail is busy.

Oh Hamish, what a shame that you got dropped!
We do not like to be picked up by people just cos we are small although thankfully we are quite heavy!
We do not think that you should have been picked up but we know that dropping you was an accident.
We completely understand that you might have snapped - well you were in pain and lets face it you are not a dog to be picked up and dropped!
We find it best to forgive humans and say sorry - just to keep things sweet. After all she does come in and take you for walks etc.
Having said that we hope Yvonne has learned her lesson.
We do hope your paw is better soon and of course the moral of the story will have to be - yes you must listen to Gail!!!!!
love you lots

Hey there, dear Hamish1
Oooo we are sorry about your arm. That's not funny - especially for an old dog.
Well, as I said in one of my recent posts: Life's lessons are part of life!
Any insurance company will tell you that both parties take on the liability of guilt. Well, it's like that in these things - you can't analyse them too much.
Saying you are sorry for whatever your part in the incident will do no harm at all. Likewise, her saying sorry for dropping you will also not harm anyone. "Sorries" all round can only strengthen the life lesson and the positive bond between you two.
Bottom line - you are probably both feeling bad and "sorry" will help.
...and we feel bad for you too.
Hope you feel better soon. Lots of love to Gail too.

Wooos! Hamish. I am sorry you got dropped, but I think your little bark scared the lady. I bark if someone picks me up too, and I struggle, so humans should know better, but they do not and we have to learn how to understand them if we are going to be pampered by them I think you are just going to have to accept the fact that mommy apologized for you, and you will have to be nice to the lady across the street, after all she does take you for walkies! Mom says biting is bad, I don't know about that, but when we are in pain, it is what we do. We cannot help it. S
o sorry old pal, I hope you feel better soon.

Sometimes Hamish, you just have to be the bigger man. I'm sorry about your sore leg and hope you get better very soon.

Oh poor Hamish! That's terrible! You did the right doggie thing. Puffers is so old now and he hates to be picked up. I think he has owies inside. He snaps when picked up wrong. And to be dropped from such a tall highth...we (me n Puffy) thinks she needs to be making nice to YOU, not the other way around. But you are such a gentleman, I can see where extending the olive branch first is nice. Now it's her turn. We think she should be bringing you some lovely snackies and your mum needs to be warning peeps to not pick you up. Bones get fragile with age. How would she like to be dropped from a 5 story building? Teefies are your only defense and we see that you were afraid she was going to pick you up and drop you again. You warned the silly woman with a bark. If she proceeded after that, she got what she deserved!

Hamish, we are so sorry you got dropped and hope you feel better soon.

It was very sweet of you to take Yvonne the flowers, but we hope she doesn't feel compelled to pick you up and drop you again just so she can get more flowers. If she tries it again, bite her again!! And no more flowers!!

Firstly, let me say - I am sorry you got dropped. One thing i've got going for me is that no one can really pick me up except for when i am put on the scale at home, but that takes only seconds. I cannot imagine how scared you must be when someone just sweeps u up into their arms. The flowers were a great gesture, but the bite...? Well you were only protecting yourself...us pups we gotta stick together!

Ummmn, Hamish, this is a tough one.
To begin with, I am so, so sorry that you got dropped and then hurt.
Getting dropped is like when humans take a fall, its just plain embarrasing, and then to have an injury on top of it all. Biting was bad but somewhat understandable.

Now dear Hamish, you won't like what I am going to say, but if you had listened to Gail, none of it would have happened, would it? A little lesson!

Kisses,
Stella

Oh Heck Hamish! Is your paw all better now?

Hmmm we are thinking that perhaps Stella offered some good advice to you Hamish. Please promise us you won't cross the road again unless Gail is with you. We don't want you to get hurt.

Have a pleasant weekend.

Oh Hamish,

Well, accidents happen. So sorry to hear you got dropped and hurt your leg ... Sometimes our chief drops us too (not on purpose, but we're so heavy, big and stubborn ... our poor human can only lift so much!)

She's always very sorry when she drops us (which thankfully is not at all often) ... but we forgive and forget and still have fun!

we're glad your mum maid u say sorry with flowers. Looks on bright side, least you get to go on walks when your momma is too busy.
