An obstacle course

For example, my favourite place to explore, the path west from our Loch Torridon cottage, could be considered a bit of an obstacle course. But I am an intrepid dog (although old). We were there again last weekend.

First I had to cross a small stream:

Then came a tricky descent:

Bogs, I find quite fun (although I didn't roll in this one):

I'm well practiced at those big gates in deer fences:

And I've always been rather proud of my climbing abilities, although I had to be careful here, as the rain was making the rocks slippery:

There are lots and lots of streams in the west of Scotland (all that rain.....) But so long as I can see the bottom and the water's not running too fast, I cope quite well:

Steep slopes don't faze me, nor does an undergrowth of heather and bracken (well so long as there's some sort of a path).

Then, nearly home, one final obstacle, a ladder over a deer fence. OK, I confess, I had to be lifted onto this one. But don't you think I was brave, standing there on the top, all alone and not making a fuss whilst Gail took this photo!

Back to the road and civilization, surely all plain sailing from here. Oh no, I give up!

P.S. As you can see, it was one of those days when you couldn't decide whether to have your raincoat on or off. We have them quite a lot in these parts!

Hey Hamish. What wonderful photos and what wonderful countryside! We would so love to join you. You live in pristine beauty...You lucky devil! Our walks here, in Johannesburg city, have to be carefully controlled with leashes - dodging traffic and barking dogs. Our parks are few and not well kept - we could easily be bitten by snakes. Oh how we wish we could be there. Love Max & Co

Hi Hamish

The boggy bit looks very interesting, very interesting in fact.

Hope you saw the pub details?

Have a good trip.

Hi Hamish

We loved those pictures - how nimble you are! Must be the experience of the Munros - we struggle more than you especially with styles.

You look every inch the intrepid explorer!

We think Gail should certainly take you to Rowardennan - the sculpture is made of granite so should be fine for you to pee against!

Wooo Hamish! That was a great walkie, although I would have stayed at the stream more to play in the water. And yes, you were quite brave to be up on that ladder so high! Wooo, I am not sure I would have done that!

Good Morning Hamish,

What a wonderful walk. But we want to know if you can walk across that cattle guard.

What I like to see, Hamish, is that you are a thoughtful walker. You give thought to where to go, how to go it and when not to go. Yes, I think you are brave alright, but also very SMART.

Kisses,
Stella

Good Morning Hamish,

We don't have cattle guards on our farm, but we have seen them. Mom won't let us go on one because she's afraid we might either fall through or break a leg. Usually the ones here are more rounded at the top. We think you must have been a very smart pup to have been able to cross one. We would love to go on a walk with you.

Have a Wonderful Wednesday.

You look like you are in your element! Up! Down! Over! Through! But do you really go across that cattle guard? And do you REALLY stay so fluffy and white?

(Can we come visit?)
