BBQ - Aberdeen style

Back in Aberdeen, I am delighted to report that the humans here are too stupid to realise our climate is not suitable for barbecues.

Every summer, in a triumph of hope over experience, someone decides that a party which involves cooking and eating outdoors is a good idea. No matter that the guests may need to bring their winter jackets or risk hypothermia. See Laura, pictured left, she's wearing gloves and she's from Finland!

Well I already have a built in furry coat, so I just adore barbecues in any weather. I expect you can guess why!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Katherine and Dave for allowing me to come along with Gail to the party at your lovely new home.

Fortunately, and despite their apparent misunderstanding of the term 'barbecue weather', all these supposedly clever young people from the university did at least seem to know that a dog's well-being depends on a regular supply of meaty titbits, and plenty of affectionate pats on the head. And if they forgot, I can assure you that I did not for one moment suffer in silence...

Way to go Hamish - if we don't remind them, the bipeds might forget the tidbits.

Wooo Hamish, I hope you got lots of BBQ. Mom here BBQ's in the rain, in winter, in the HOT of summer, but we usually eat it inside.
I like liking the grill, but you may be a little vertically challenged for that, sorry pal. Find a stool, because it is yummy!

Hi Hamish
How lovely for you to be invited along to the BBQ. It was very nice to see you right at the centre of things - this, of course, is as it should be!
As you so rightly point out you were the only one dressed correctly for the weather! They teach them to smile in the face of adversity you know! They would all have been frozen but would ensure they looked happy.
We noticed humans were sitting on giant toadstools! Can you explain that to us Hamish. Have they grown a large specimen of toadstoool to save them the expense of table and chairs?
Well you know what these universtiy students are like! They like to be innovative! What with the expense of the new house as well.
We trust that you got a reasonable selection of food and did not have to make do with just sausage.
We ourselves managed to get a left over steak between last week!
We could not believe our luck - it was the best thing we have ever tasted and we intend to go along to every BBQ we can get to!
The humans dont seem to like it right enough if you have to answer a call of nature whilst they are awaiting their food!
love and kisses

Very nice experience, Hamish! I am happy that you had fun and got goodies to eat. Myself I have never been invited to a BBQ but if I were, I KNOW I would love it, food, socializing, hearing the talk. Lets hope for one this summer.

Kisses,
Stella

Hey Hamish...
Glad you are back, little pooch!!... and haven't forgotten how to secure the meaty bits. I must tell you, in South AFrica the BBQ is called a "BRAAI!" and it is the major pasttime of the citizens. Us pooches have learnt to lie very close, if not under the grill, to snap up any falling offerings.
Thankfully our weather here is always condusive to 'braaiing'. With all due respect...you have to come to South AFrica to experience the REAL THING!
Lots of love

ps..ask those university students: "As outsiders, what do they think of the human race?"

Oh Hamish Dear! BBQ season is all year round in Southern Arizona. Perhaps the bi-peds were pretending to be in Phoenix!! You are so adorable you probably got lots of good treats, right? We are loving it here in farrr North Idaho. It's cool here right now, but not mitten weather.
Was your momma the one who loved Glacier Park?? We'll go there soon.Smooches, BabyRD & Hootie

I love a good BBQ, no matter the weather!
I saw your comment on Kira and Scampi's blog and it made me giggle, so I thought I'd come over and say "ha roo!"

Ah Hamish, I see you took your "cute tonic" and were looking especially fetching. Good move, old boy! I got a haircut (a stripping, actually) last week so now I can really coax the goodies from the 2-leggeds with the "big brown eyes" routine. hehehehe.

It's damp and chilly here too. No complaints from me but Mommy's been grumbling.

Your pal,

Petey

Hi Hamish! Love your blog! Found it via Max's in South Africa! My humans used to live in Aberdeen and said it was never barbecue weather. Mind you, there are a distinct lack of umbrellas in your photos!

I now live in Fife where it is sunny all the time!!

We don't even live in Aberdeen, and our people had to wear jackets and long pants on the same day you enjoyed your BBQ. We were lucky to still have our shaggy coats. No matter the weather. The food and pats still taste and feel great! Wouldn't you agree?

Jake and Fergs (who are now in MUCH warmer weather! AND our shaggy coats are gone, as of yesterday!)
