A snowy weekend out West

We've had a lot of wordy posts lately. So today I've decided to give my sore paws a break from typing and show you some photos taken this weekend during a very snowy visit to our cottage on Loch Torridon

This is the cottage...

And me posing in the front garden.

These are the neighbours.  One of them is called 'Gail', which I think is quite funny..

Here is the local communication centre..

And this was our road earlier today..

Part of it is steep, so we had to wait for this vehicle to arrive before we could set off home..

Oh I wish the snow plough man had stopped in bed so we could have stayed longer to enjoy the scenery..

So much nicer than Aberdeen...

Breed envy

Sorry I haven't been in touch this week. A change of plan at short notice meant spending the week over at our Loch Torridon cottage - great views but no internet access.

We went for a walk on Beinn Alligin, and I decided to see what it would be like to be one of my black coated Scottie cousins for the day.

Do you think I succeeded?

I think I looked pretty  good.

But Gail seemed less than keen on the new image, and wouldn't let me back in the Mini until I'd had a cold bath...

Now I have just learned that my friends the  Rocky Creek Scotties are having a 'stick out your tongue' challenge. It so happens that I posed in appropriate fashion a couple of days ago, and would like to enter the photo below in the sub-category 'best tongue displayed in a beautiful mountain landscape'!

This final picture probably won't interest you, because I'm not in it, but Gail is convinced that some people/dogs might like to see the view outside our cottage at about 10:15 pm on Midsummer night.

A wet and windy week out West

Well at least Gail remembered to pack my waterproof coat this time...

There is a theory that May is the best month to take a holiday in the West of Scotland. When the days are long, the midges not yet abundant and the weather calm and settled. Supposedly.

Well, midges don't like severe gale force winds, so it's true we didn't see too many of them over at Loch Torridon last week. And it's also true that it wasn't getting dark until nearly ten in the evening, not that there's much incentive to go outside and take advantage  of the daylight if it's also raining horizontally. Settled weather? Ha!  Judge for yourself from the photo below..

By dint of careful shower dodging, we did manage to get out and do some exploring, and at least the waterfalls looked impressive.

We even, eventually, saw a ray or two of sunshine.
And by the end of the week, I was more than ready to put my paws up.
Such a comfy sofa. Zzzzz.

In my element

Where do I belong?

No I'm not going all deep and philosophical with you today. The answer is quite simple. I'm that special breed of Scottish terrier known as a Westie and my heart is in the (west) Highlands. My spiritual home, you could say.  That's where I was, too briefly, this weekend, at Gail's cottage by Loch Torridon to be precise.

I only wish we could spend more time there, exploring the beautiful mountains and lochs, and romping around in the marvellously squelchy bogs, the perfect surface for the dog with sensitive paws. I felt fully ten years younger.

So it's a bit of a come down to be back in boring old Aberdeen, especially as Gail is shortly going away for just over a week, leaving me at home but without my valued computer assistant!
