An evening trip to Aberdeen harbour

It is only right and proper, I feel, when your human returns after abandoning you to various carers for a whole two weeks, that she feels guilty and rushes home early from work every evening and takes you out for better walks than normal.

So it was that yesterday evening we went down to a part of Aberdeen called Torry, at the entrance to the harbour.

Actually, I don't understand why we don't go to the harbour more often. After all, it takes less than ten minutes in the car, and there's so many interesting things to see.

For example - the 'Torry Coo'.

Yes, I was confused at first too. It's not a cow at all, but the old foghorn which used to warn ships entering the harbour in poor visibility to keep away from the rocks.

The lighthouse nearby looks romantic  in the fading evening light. Ah, if only Stella were here....

Behind the lighthouse, we have the 'Torry Battery'. Nothing to do with Duracell, rather an old fortification built in 1860 to defend Aberdeen against French invasions.

It was almost dark by the time we returned to the car. Gail said she was disappointed that we hadn't seen any dolphins. And there was me, thinking all those people in the car park, sat with their binoculars, were wanting a closer look at my own good self!

I often wonder what's to be found on the other side of the harbour. I don't understand why we we never go there. Apparently there are 'red lights' and 'ladies of the night'. It does sound exciting........
PS I have been banned from talking about the incident that happened when Gail was away, except to say that Gail is very upset because I bit one of her friends, who was only trying to help me after I had been stung by a wasp.

Hamish - such a beautiful walk. Thanks for sharing it with us.

We know how those wasp stings hurt!! Piper got stung by one just last month and it made him mourn pitifully.

Oh, Hamish, this is a very lovely walk and I too wish I was there with you. We would have a nice, quiet time, wouldn't we?

I am sorry you got bit by a wasp, they are mean guys! But I am sorry too you had to bite your helper. Soon you won't have anymore helpers if you keep biting them.

Kisses,
Stella

Hey Hamish,

It looks lovely there. Such a nice walk.

Bummer about the wasp. I know you didn't really mean to bite anyone. Pain make you do crazy things!

ps Sorry about your incident...are you becoming snappy in your old age? (Apparently it's one of the side-effects...sometimes) Poor pup! (& Mom)

Hi Hamish
We enjoyed the walk to Aberdeen harbour. Our mum went to Aberdeen for a wedding a few years ago and was disappointed not to have time to look around.
Now that you mention dolphins we are even more interested in revisiting!
The lighthouse did look incredibly romantic - we weren't so sure about that old fog horn right enough.
Now as for the area across the harbour - mmmmm sounds like Leith docks and we think you best stay away.
Now as for the brief mention of 'the incident' we understand how hard it is when someone is trying to help you when you are in pain.
On one occasion Bailey snapped at our mum when she had hurt her paw when we were out and mum was trying to have a look.
Well you just dont know are they going to hurt you even more!!!!
We do hope all is forgiven Hamish - we know you usually behave very well indeed.
love and kisses

Hamish. We think you should go to the harbor more often, so we can go along. And.... we're sorry to hear about the wasp incident. You couldn't have known. It's not your character. You were in pain! Fergi'll vouch for you. She got her nose a little too close to a wasp this summer.... luckily it was already dying, cuz the sting wasn't great and she flung it right off. Still, it HURTS and you were only taking care of yourself. We hope all is forgiven and forgotten soon, if not already.

Love ya,
Jake and Fergi xxoo
