Haircut / industrial action...

A dilemma!

My intention today had been to highlight the cruel treatment I received earlier this week, when a certain thoughtless and incompetent person arranged for me to visit the hairdresser on the very same day as we had the first frost of the season. To illustrate extent of my suffering, I commissioned a series of 'before' and 'after' pictures from the photographer-in-chief.

Then I started catching up on my favourite blogs, and my militant tendency came to the surface. I realized that I absolutely had to do something to support comrades Martha and Bailey Basset in their heroic struggle against  oppression in the form of the constant invasion of their privacy by a person wielding a flashy box.

Yes, Martha and Bailey  are on strike, refusing to pose for the camera unless treats are proffered. No longer are we dogs prepared to be exploited by our 'owners' by providing, free of charge, material purely for their own gratification!

But then, my 'before and after' photos had already been shot. What to do?

Well of course, Gail and I locked ourselves in the traditional smoke-filled room, ordered in some beer and sandwiches, and conducted a lengthy negotiation.

The result - a classic 50% compromise.

Hi Hamish, thank you for joining in the strike action. We too are always compromising with our humans!
What is a dog to do?
As for your haircut we cannot believe that Gail would be so thoughtless - it is freezing!
Our humans took us for a walk today wrapped in scarves - with hats and gloves etc.
We were naked!
It is an unfair world Hamish - thank dogness you have your little coat! We seem to remember it was red too.........
The fight goes on - we have been offered treats however they are of a low calorie variety and the F word has been mentioned!
Hamish, speak honestly here, do you think we are FAT?!!!!!

What you can't see, won't hurt you? Right?

Except in the case of the tail, even if you can't often see it, you can feel it if it gets cold! How ridiculous would you look with a tail warmer. Kind of like a pig-in-a-blanket (google it and look for the little edibles.) Oh the humiliation.

Speaking of edibles. We have a couple of places nearby where we can get Marmite. (Bovril, too, but we've not tried it.) Good thing, because we like Marmite a lot. It's expensive, Moma says, so we use it in small quantities and not too often. But we're happy we've got it! (So is Winston. He inhales the aroma...)

Speaking of which ... it's nearing tea time! Who'd've guessed? Here in the Rockies.

Yours,
Jake and Fergi xxoo

Hi Hamish, it's Bella from Australia. I wish I could visit you one day, I'd love to see the land of my ancestors.
I'm used to the heat now, but Dad won't let me get a sun tan (look at my blog to see what I mean).
I demanded treats right from the start for the photos, but now i'm thinking I should get a percentage of the blog activity, maybe 1 treat for each comment on my blog, what do you think ?

Hamish! Your BEFORE shot looks like my right now shot...flag on the tail and all. It's funny we look so similar. Short leggies, short tail...we're almost the same color as I am a very light wheaten. Except why would you get a buzz cut in the winter? I found these adorable red westie PJ's for winter..they even have a hiney flap (I think it's decorative only):

Maybe in your negotiations, you could get some of these to wear to keep from freezin yer bum!
Stay warm!

Hey there comrade Hamish,
Is that really you...or some imposter? The last time I saw you you were frolicking in the mud! Man, that 'behind' looks adorable! Keep warm though - there is nothing worse than a frosty butt.

Is that the Ph.D. who decided you should have a haircut at the beginning of winter? Hmmm, figures.

I'd leave off with this compromising stuff about photos, this is too serious a matter for that. Cold turkey it, Hamish!

Kisses,
Stella
